H. pylori

H. pyloriInfection with H. pylori is the cause of most stomach and duodenal ulcers. Most people who are infected with H. pylori have no symptoms or problems caused by the infection and are considered to be “colonized”. Some people develop gastrointestinal symptoms and are considered to be “infected”. About 10-20% of people who are infected with H. pylori develop an ulcer and have a 1-2% risk of stomach cancer.

Infection with H. pylori can be confirmed by a test done on a sample of stools (faeces), by a breath test, by a blood test or from a biopsy sample taken during a gastroscopy (endoscopy).

Current diagnostic guidelines recommend using a non-invasive test, such as the Uni-Gold™ H. pylori Antigen test (Not available in the USA), to aid in the diagnosis of H. pylori infection and to monitor the effectiveness of treatment

Trinity Biotech also provides a range of EIA s for the detection of antibodies to H. pylori.
