Intended Use

AMAX ThromboMAX HS with Calcium is intended for use in the determination of the one stage Prothrombin Time (PT) test and in prothrombin time based assays.

Principle

The one stage Prothrombin Time measures the clotting time of test plasma after the addition of ThromboMAX HS with Calcium. The reagent supplies a source of “tissue thromboplastin”, activating Factor VII and is therefore sensitive to all extrinsic and common pathway factors. Coumadin and related anti-coagulants reduce the activity of the vitamin-K dependent clotting factors II, VII, IX, X, Protein C, and Protein S.9,10 Coumadin induced reductions in II, VII, and X prolong the PT.
Deficiencies of intrinsic pathway factors (VIII, IX, XI, and XII) are not detected by the PT test.
